SSH with PuTTY and VcXsrv

  1. Download, install and launch PuTTY and VcXsrv.

  2. In PuTTY:

    • Enter either scrp-login.econ.cuhk.edu.hk or scrp-login-2.econ.cuhk.edu.hk as the host name.

    • If you want to use any program with graphical user interface (GUI), click Connection > SSH > X11 on the left panel, then tick ‘Enable X11 forwarding’.

    • You might also want to save the session for future use.

    Click ‘Open’ to start the session.

  3. When prompted, follow the instructions to enter your username and password. For students, your CUHK Compute ID would be used as your username. When entering your password, neither its length nor its content will be shown.

    To paste content in PuTTY, right click inside the PuTTY window instead of typing Ctrl+V.

File Transfer Using WinSCP

  1. Download, install and launch WinSCP.

  2. Enter either scrp-login.econ.cuhk.edu.hk or scrp-login-2.econ.cuhk.edu.hk as the host name. After entering your username and password, click ‘Login’.
